Luol Deng has confirmed that he is to return to playing for Great Britain, and will take part in the EuroBasket qualifiers this summer.
The Cleveland Cavaliers forward’s commitment to GB will be subject to his contract situation in the summer, with his Cavaliers contract to expire at the end of the season. He would need to sort out his future before fully committing to coach Joe Prunty’s team.
In a statement released by British Basketball, Deng said
"“I had a really good discussion around Christmas and some good feedback from the players. I’m really excited about playing with Great Britain again and hope to get my free agency sorted so I can make this happen. I’m eager to get back in that GB jersey and on the road to Rio 2016.”"
Deng, who has played 49 games for his country, was traded to the Cavaliers from the Chicago Bulls earlier this month. Coach Prunty is an assistant coach of the Brooklyn Nets, who will play the Atlanta Hawks in the O2 Arena in London on Thursday.
Great Britain’s opponent for the qualifiers will be unveiled at the draw in Barcelona on February 3.
