Sunday was not too kind to the San Francisco 49ers. During the team’s loss to the division rival Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship, they watched two key starters — linebacker NaVorro Bowman and guard Mike Iupati — go down with potentially serious injuries.
After the game, head coach Jim Harbaugh said that the initial diagnosis led the team to believe Bowman suffered a torn ACL and he also shared an update on Iupati.
While it is still not official, Harbaugh feared for the worse and said that it appeared Iupati may have suffered a broken ankle.
Neither injury will impact the team this season now that they have been eliminated, but it could make things a bit interesting moving forward.
If Iupati suffered a broken ankle, he will miss OTAs and be in a fight to get ready for training camp depending on the severity of the fracture. For Bowman, a torn ACL at this point in the season all but guarantees he will miss significant time in 2014. It would be a shock if he did not begin the season on the PUP list.
