Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley is one of the most promising young defensive players in the league, but there have been some questions about his maturity on and off the field.

With the offseason approaching, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew is hoping that the 2011 first-round pick will be able to take the time to improve himself in the offseason on a professional and maturity level.

He could play more consistently,” Mayhew told the Detroit Free Press. “I mean, he’s got to mature a little bit as a professional, I think. I think that’d be a big step in him playing more consistently.”

Fairley has had flashes of brilliance throughout his time in the league, but he also has his moments where he doesn’t show up.

If Fairley can become more consistent for the Lions, then Detroit will have the most dominant defensive tackle duo in the league.
