Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy had a successful season as his team locked up the number two seed in the NFC Conference. He also earned the nickname the “Kraken” and made it to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. While enjoying the islands, there is one thing Hardy won’t be taking in.

“I don’t play around like that,” Hardy joked, via Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. “Not before money time.”

A very smart move on his part especially since he is looking for a big deal, even if it means playing under the franchise tag. As of now the Panthers are clearing up some salary cap issues before addressing Hardy’s contract situation so it is in his best interest to protect his value, getting injured in the offseason would hurt his leverage.

“It’s a waiting process. They’ve got to get the budget right,” Hardy said. “It’s a reality of football. It’s a reality of business. They’ve got the ball in their court right now. If that’s what they choose to do, nothing but respect and love.

“Carolina’s my home. But I’ve got to go back to work. I’d rather be here if I can. But if not, it’s just business.”
