Ron Rivera led the Carolina Panthers to a playoff appearance this season, which landed him a free trip to Hawaii to coach one of the two teams in the 2014 Pro Bowl. As it turns out, the Panthers are hoping to keep “Riverboat Ron” running the show and he could soon receive a new deal.

According to the Charlotte Observer, a league source has said that the Panthers have approached their third-year head coach about a potential contract extension.

The Panthers watched their season come to an end in the divisional round of the postseason thanks to the San Francisco 49ers, but it was still the team’s best season in five years and it will be interesting to see how they are able to follow up their season in 2014.
