From now until NFL Draft day, you’re going to see a lot of experts explain the different needs of different teams, but as far as the Detroit Lions go, the fans themselves have spoken and they would like to see their franchise–and their new head coach–look toward the defensive side of the ball.
And, they’d also like to see the team stick with the home-state boy and draft Michigan State cornerback, Darqueze Dennard.
MLive.com polled the fans recently, and the All-American Spartans corner drew 25% of the vote as who they would like to see don the Honolulu blue next season.
Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State | 2626 | 25.27% |
Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M | 1986 | 19.11% |
Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State | 1775 | 17.08% |
Marqise Lee, WR, USC | 1519 | 14.62% |
Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo | 888 | 8.55% |
CJ Mosley, LB, Alabama | 534 | 5.14% |
HaHa Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama | 492 | 4.73% |
Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina | 264 | 2.54% |
Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan | 254 | 2.44% |
Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri | 54 | 0.52% |
Dennard was this past season’s Jim Thorpe Award winner, recognizing the top defensive back in the nation and he’s also one of the more physical defenders in this May’s draft.
Looking back at the Lions’ pass defense last season, the people of Detroit seem to know what they’re doing.
