UPDATE: The NBA has officially spoken on the matter, and the game has rightfully been canceled

10:45: If you haven’t heard, Atlanta and the area surrounding the city is enduring utter chaos. The southeast was hit with a winter storm, and it has caused city shutdowns and many citizens had to sleep in their car on the interstate, kids were trapped in schools, and come people even slept in stores.

Events like this always rise above sports, and we should always take safety over games that are scheduled to be played. Alas, there is an NBA game scheduled for Wednesday night, but it doesn’t look like it will be played. The Detroit Pistons defeated the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night, but due to the weather, they were unable to travel from Detroit to Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The NBA requires the team that travels to be in the city the night before, so that means we are likely to see this game be rescheduled for Thursday night.

I am a member of the Atlanta Hawks media, and cover a lot of their home games, and I can tell you that it’s bad. I wouldn’t be able to leave my neighborhood if the game was to be played tonight, and I’m glad the NBA is using caution here.
