Andrew Bynum is on his way to Indiana to become a member of the Pacers but things almost went very differently on Saturday morning. The Los Angeles Clippers had been flirting with the idea of signing Bynum ever since the Chicago Bulls cut him loose, but they ultimately decided to pass because of the question mark Bynum represents.
According to NBA writer Scott Howard-Cooper, the Clippers considered Bynum but ultimately decided that they’d rather keep the roster spot open an save the money.
Clippers considered Bynum, but didn’t want to tie up roster spot on such a question mark. Holding it for future byouts or trade.

That speaks very strongly about how the Clippers felt when they looked at Bynum. Los Angeles will have money issues in the offseason, but they’re a team in contention and decided an open roster spot for future buyouts was more valuable than adding Bynum.
Bynum landing in Indiana may end up working out nicely, but the Clippers reservations may be revisited if the experiment bows up in the face of the Pacers.
