This summer is when LeBron James is expected to opt-out of his contract and test free agency, although doing so isn’t a certainty. While almost everyone expects Carmelo Anthony to opt out of his deal with the Knicks this offseason, the Heat have a better chance of keeping LeBron James, but that won’t stop teams from making a run at him while they can.

Back in 2010, the Dallas Mavericks were in the running to sign LeBron and they were also in the running to sign Dwight Howard this past summer. Both times the Mavs lost out on their target but that hasn’t deterred them from wanting to go big game hunting in 2014.

According to Dallas Morning News writer Eddie Sefko, the Mavericks are expected to at make an obligatory run at signing King James.

"Of course they’ll make a run at him. They can throw maximum money at him. But it just doesn’t sound like James is in the mood to prove himself in a situation that isn’t ready-made to be a title team. He can go wherever he wants, assuming he opts out. I could see him considering a lot of other teams before the Mavericks. But that won’t keep them from making their pitch."

Dallas already thinks they’re just a player away from being a contender, and the only question is does LeBron James see the team he same way Mark Cuban does?
