The New Orleans Saints will have a decision to make with linebacker Jonathan Vilma once free agency begins in early March, and it looks like they are prepared to let the veteran test the market and eventually walk. According to Pro Football Talk, it is “highly likely” that Vilma will be looking for a new home in 2014.
Vilma has played in just 12 games over the past two seasons thanks to injuries and suspension and he has shown clear signs of slowing down in the rare moments that he makes it onto the field.
Like many aging veterans on the free agent market, teams will need to think long and hard before shelling out money for a man who is two months shy of his 32nd birthday and already unable to stay healthy.
If he does get a look, it may be at a discounted price with no guarantee of a starting job.
