NBA Rumors: Miami Heat looking to sign Chris Kaman, Charlie Villanueva
By Josh Hill
The NBA trade deadline is approaching fast, which means teams are starting to hammer out strategies to adding players that can help in the postseason or dumping salary to free up cap space for the summer. The Miami Heat are sort of in both categories as they want to avoid the luxury tax as much as possible but are looking to add players to their roster.
According to Ira Winderman of the Orlando Sentinel, the Heat may look t the march 1st waiver deadline more than they’re looking at the February 20th trade deadline when it comes to adding key pieces for the postseason.
March 1st is the last date a player can be signed and be eligible for the postseason, which means the waiver wire will be filling up with players. The Heat added Chris Anderson at the deadline last year and he proved instrumental in bringing another title to South Beach.
Winderman speculates that the Heat will look at potential buyout candidates in Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Caron Butler and Chris Kaman.
Of course, these players have to be waived before they’re considered by the Heat, but it’s clear they want to add more pieces this year but just may not do so through a trade.
