The Green Bay Packers are a team that has quietly built a winner through the draft, but they have greatly benefited in the past from nice free agent signings. While guys like Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, Clay Matthews and Eddie Lacy have been draft picks who developed in the Packers’ system, they’ve gone out and gotten free agents like Charles Woodson who help bring Super Bowl titles to the Frozen Tundra.

Green Bay appears to be ready to spend this offseason, but Mike Vandermause of PackersNews.com is skeptical that the team will veer away from their beaten path of building through the draft.

"No one should expect the Packers to make a big splash this offseason, because that would mean Thompson has suddenly turned over a new leaf and will fundamentally change his approach to building a team.Anything is possible, but Thompson is about as consistent as they come, so for him to reinvent himself as a free-agent high roller seems unthinkable."

The Packers are rumored to be after guys like Brandon Pettigrew and Scott Chandler, but the team has made itself through the draft and veering away from that entirely is unlikely. Green Bay may bring in a decent free agent, but they are unlikely to use up all their cap space splurging on free agents.
