NBA Trade Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers in talks to acquire Omer Asik from Houston Rockets
By Josh Hill
The Houston Rockets had a deal on the table earlier in the year to trade Omer Asik to the Boston Celtics but wanted more than Danny Ainge was willing give up and vice versa. At that time, the Philadelphia 76ers were also rumored to be looking at Asik and those talks have reportedly been rekindled.
No, this isn’t a boat from the recent past, the Philadelphia 76ers are indeed in talks to acquire Omer Asik from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Per CBSSports.com guru Ken Berger:
"The Rockets have renewed efforts to trade disgruntled center Omer Asik, with the Philadelphia 76ers emerging once again as a potential landing spot, league sources told CBSSports.com on Tuesday."
It appears thought that old problems die hard, as draft picks seem to be holding up talks. The 76ers can absorb all of Asik’s salary and not send back a player, as they are currently $11 million under the cap.Houston wants a first-round pick in return for Asik which clashes with the 76ers deadline strategy to acquire as many picks as they can.
Berger doesn’t say the deal is close to being completed, as serious hangups exist. But this report does fly in the face of one earlier in the day from USA Today’s Sam Amick that suggested the Rockets were not on the phone discussing Asik trades.
