After failing to trade him at the deadline last Thursday, the Sacramento Kings are in the process of finalizing a buyout of guard Jimmer Fredette, making him a free agent for the first time in his NBA career. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings are buying out Fredette and he should be hitting waivers very soon.
"The Sacramento Kings and guard Jimmer Fredette are finalizing a buyout agreement on his contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
Fredette didn’t really fit well with the Kings system, but it’s entirely possible that he could flourish in the right offense. The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks should be looking his way as he could raise his scoring average in an up-tempo offense or on an offense that allows him more scoring chances.
He’s not a lock to go to either one of those teams, but he will almost certainly draw attention from a contending team looking for a guard, like the San Antonio Spurs or even the Oklahoma City Thunder.
