San Diego restaurant owner Stephen Felando recently came across a shoeless man outside of Joey’s Pizza. He offered the man a free meal, which the stranger accepted. Then, after the man said he needed to “get over Calistoga Mountain” later in the day, Felando decided to offer him some footwear to make the journey easier.

We’ll let the Santa Rosa Press Democrat detail what happened next:

"So Felando pulled off the shoes he was wearing, a pair of flip-flops bearing the Chargers logo. Offering them to the man, he said he was sorry they weren’t sturdier footwear and he hoped they would be better than nothing. “That’d be great,” the fellow said, taking the beach shoes in his hands. Then his head jerked a little. He said, “Are these Chargers flip-flops?” Felando nodded and noted that though he moved away from San Diego years and years ago he’s still a fan. With that, the wanderer handed him back the flip-flips. “I’m good,” he said. And he walked off in his stocking feet."

When we eventually compile the list of odd stories from the NFL off-season, this one will definitely be a shoe-in.
