Updated NBA Rookie of the Year odds: Victor Oladipo is the favorite
Now that the NBA season is winding down and we are getting closer and closer to the playoffs, our friends over at Bovada have sent us their latest odds.
Much like the MVP battle between Miami Heat forward LeBron James and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, the oddsmakers now consider the quest for the Rookie of the Year Award a two horse race.
Orlando Magic guard Victor Oladipo, the #2 overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, opened the season as the favorite with 12/5 odds,.
However, Philadelphia 76ers’ point guard Michael Carter-William, who began the season with the fifth best odds at 9/1, exploded onto the scene and soon became a heavy favorite to win the award.
Oladipo has shown more improvement throughout the season and is now considered the favorite to win the award (and is the new #1 on FanSided’s very prestigious Rookie of the Year Power Rankings).
On the season, Oladipo is averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 41.1% from the field, 31.3% from beyond the arc and 78.0% from the charity stripe. Oladipo has played in all 62 Magic games.
Carter-Williams has missed 12 games due to various injuries. He’s averaging 17.1 points, 6.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. He’s shooting 39.6% from the field, 27.3% from three and 70.3% from the free throw line.
