During the Milwaukee Bucks 112-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans Friday night, Bucks’ guard O.J. Mayo got into a bit of an altercation.
During the first quarter, Pelicans’ big man Greg Stiemsma sit a pick on Mayo in an attempt to try to free up sharpshooter Anthony Morrow for an open shot. The two players got tangled up and Mayo obviously took offense. He responded by punching Stiemsma in the throat. Mayo was immediately issued a flagrant 2 and promptly ejected from the game.
Mayo played just three minutes in the game, committed two fouls and did not score, missing his only shot attempt in the game.
On Saturday, the NBA announced that Mayo would be suspended for Saturday night’s game against the Washington Wizards.
The signing of Mayo in the offseason never made a lot of sense and it predictably has not worked out.
Mayo is averaging 11.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 26.5 minutes per game this season.
