The Pittsburgh Steelers appear to be purging some of their veteran players this offseason and one of the staple defensive players not expected back is safety Ryan Clark. Pittsburgh seems to be moving on from Clark but the veteran safety will undoubtedly find work in a league that covets veteran defensive backs like him.
One dark horse team to keep an eye on is the Minnesota Vikings, who apparently have mild interest in Clark at the moment. ESPN1500’s Darren Wolfson reports that while there isn’t concrete interest from the Vikings, there may be some down the road.
The Vikings don’t appear to be in the market for a safety and if they sign one, they’ll likely do so after filling other needs. Clark isn’t a young player anymore, but pairing his veteran skills long side Harrison Smith may end up helping the Vikings out in the long-term with Smith.
He’ll get interest elsewhere, but Clark and the Vikings may end up being match we didn’t see coming.
