Now that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided to trade or release cornerback Darrelle Revis and have locked down their top target in free agency, former Cincinnati Bengals’ defensive end Michael Johnson, they have turned their attention to replacing Revis in the secondary.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, former Chicago Bears’ cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman will be in Tampa Bay to visit with the Buccaneers.
Tillman was originally selected with the 35th overall pick in the second round by the Bears in the 2003 draft and has spent all 11 years of his NFL career in Chicago.
From 2004 through 2012, he played under head coach Lovie Smith.
The Bears fired Smith after the 2012 season and after a year away from football, Smith was hired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to replace Greg Schiano.
Tillman obviously has a good relationship with Smith, who is very popular among his players.
Over his career, Tillman has 849 tackles, 36 interceptions and 133 passes defended.
Last season, he made 41 tackles and picked off three passes in eight games.
