One of the names that is getting a lot of attention in the 2014 NFL free agency scramble, is Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback, Darrelle Revis, who is expected to be either traded or released when the free agency period begins at 4pm today.
There aren’t many teams whose names won’t be tied to Revis, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that one of the possible players for Revis’ services is the New England Patriots.
This is big news not only because anytime the Patriots acquire a premier player it sends the rest of the league into a frenzy, but also because the Pats biggest rival in the AFC East is Revis’ former team – the New York Jets.
The Jets made sure they didn’t let Revis just walk away last season when it became clear they weren’t going to re-sign him, as the last thing they wanted was to see Revis sauntering over the Bill Belichick’s team. Now it appears their worst nightmare could be happening anyway.
The Patriots could be losing their biggest shutdown corner, Aqib Talib, so getting on board the boat for Revis Island would only make sense for New England.
Should this actually happen, it will make for a couple of very fun games between the Jets and Pats this season…as if they weren’t already fun enough.
