Late Tuesday night after a visit, news broke that the New Orleans Saints and free agent Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd had come to an agreement on a six-year deal. Now, Adam Schefter is reporting that not only did the Saints give Byrd a lot of years in Louisiana, but they gave him a lot of money to go along with them as well.
Saints are giving former Bills S Jairus Byrd a six-year, $54 million contract, including $28 million guaranteed, per source.

Six years and $54 million with $28 million guaranteed is what should be announced rather shortly, and that may have been stretching it just a bit.
While Byrd is the most coveted free agent defensive back on the market, it’s not really safe to assume that this was a sound investment on the part of the Saints. It may look good right now, but for the long run, deals like these generally come back to bite the buyer in the end.
