From the moment that it was reported the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were set to release cornerback Darrelle Revis, the New England Patriots appeared to be one of the leading candidates to bring the Pro Bowler on board.

Now that Revis has been released by Tampa Bay and is free to sign with any team on the open market, the Patriots will be able to swoop in.

New England remains the favorite to land Revis, but now it seems like it is more of a matter of “when” Revis signs in New England and not “when.”

From Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News:

The Patriots lost Aqib Talib to the Denver Broncos on Day 1 of free agency, so replacing him with one of the top corners in the game will allow the team and their fans to quickly move on.
