The Detroit Lions are hunting for a No. 2 receiver to throw alongside Calvin Johnson, but their first signing of the free agent period was one of their own. After watching him turn in a breakout season, the Lions have extended the contract of Joique Bell.

Lions beat writer Tim Twentymam tweeted out an official photo of the Lions running back signing his deal that keeps him in Detroit for the next few seasons.

The question now is how will Bell play after the contract. He was hunting for a long-term deal but wasn’t able to get anything more than two years. But what this deal does is take bell off the restricted free agent market this year and avoids sending him to the unrestricted market in 2015.

After signing Reggie Bush in 2013, it appeared he’d be the Lions running back of the future but the Lions happened into what could be the most dynamic running back tandem of 2014.
