Club Tijuana Player Ratings
Cirilo Saucedo 4
Didn’t have to do a lot of saves because the Xolos were too busy out on the attack. Only one save. And one goal given up. Easily outclassed by Penedo. The End. Postscript below.
Juan Carlos Nunez 5
Decent pass rate (45/57) to go with four recoveries, but takes a hit for four unsuccessful crosses.
Elio Castro 5.5
Six recoveries, three interceptions, three clearances and a bonus for a solid pass success rate (31/35).
Javier Gandolfi 5
Five recoveries, five clearances, and a passable effort with the passes (21/26).
Greg Garza 6.5
Best defender on the night for Tijuana. 11 recoveries, four clearances, thee interceptions, four tackles won and a good pass success rate (49/66).
Joe Corona 7
Man of the match for Tijuana, showing that USA National Team pedigree. Despite five recoveries and a 66 percent pass success rate or somewhere along those lines (19/29), it was a good shift for Corona until he started to tire and had to be subbed by Richard Ruiz.
Javier Guemez 5.5
Good passing consistency from Guemez (39/44) to go with four recoveries.
Hernan Pellerano 6.5
Nine recoveries, eight tackles won and a strong pass success rate along the lines of 80 percent (44/53). Combined with his brother Cristian, they ratcheted up the ante in the second half and nearly succeeded.
Cristian Pellerano 6.5
Eight recoveries, four interceptions, four key passes and a similar pass success rate to brother Hernan (45/56). Does get a deduction for a couple of unsuccessful crosses.
Jaime Ayovi 5
Very strong with passes (19/22) but had one shot off target and played with a slight limp for most of his shift.
Fidel Martinez 4.5
Held in check all game. No shots on goal, an average pass succees rate (17/23) and three unsuccessful crosses.
Richard Ruiz 4
Throw in to bring fresh bodies to the battle but didn’t do much to help his cause with the passing (10/14) and crossing (50 percent cross success rate).
Dario Benedetto 3
When you have an infection, and you’re not 100 percent, you will contribute little. Benedetto did get a few shots off, but if you’re not 100 percent, you’re not 100 percent. Period.
Herculez Gomez 1
A number of reason why I make Herc Gomez the Goat of the Match. First off, I called for him to start the game, not come off the bench. Secondly, I called for Gomez to score a brace. He only got 10 minutes and three minutes of stoppage time, one headed shot off target, and a yellow card.
Welcome back to Los Angeles, Herculez. Here’s your gift. Own it.
