The NFL offseason is to that point where there are still a lot of notable names on the market, but names that are far past their prime and are nearing their expiration date. Jared Allen, Maurice Jones-Drew and Michael Vick would make a dream team a few years but in 2014 they can’t find jobs.
Some of that might have to do with their demands, as Allen and Jones-Drew want more money than they may be worth and Michael Vick apparently is holding out over a jersey number — or not.
Despite a report this morning that stated Vick wanted Geno Smith’s No. 7 jersey if he signed with the New York Jets, Mike Florio reports that such a thing is total and complete nonsense.
"“It’s the last thing on his mind,” the source said."
Enough said.
The whole idea that Vick was holding out for a jersey number seemed a bit lame to begin with, but TMZ ran with the story and so did everyone else. But Vick should be — and apparently is — more concerned with the team he signs with and their prospects of letting him start than he is about what jersey numbers are available and which ones are not.
