NFL Draft 2014: Carolina Panthers to meet with WR Brandin Cooks
By Jack Crosby
There is definitely some talent available at the wide receiver position in this year’s NFL Draft, beyond the names Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans. One of those names that probably isn’t getting the recognition that he should is Oregon State’s Brandin Cooks. He was the most efficient receiver in college football in 2013, and from what he told NFL.com recently, he has a visit lined up in the near future with a team that could definitely use his services.
"So far I’ve been to New England, I have Carolina coming up and then I’ll fly out to New York. I’ll have to check my schedule because I have a couple of others. It’s one of those things where you always have to be ready because you never know who’s going to pop on the phone."
At this point, if Cooks is still on the board when Carolina comes up, they need to scoop him up, given what happened to their wide receiver corps during the free agency period recently. While young, Cooks has all the tools to succeed in the Carolina offense right off the bat, and would be a tremendous help to Cam Newton. The Oregon State product just has a knack for finding the open space down field, which is perfect for when Newton is scrambling for his life.
