The Kansas City Chiefs always seem to be ahead of everyone when it comes to rumors we get invested in. They were one of the first teams to be linked to Devin Hester, they were in on the DeSean Jackson trade rumors a month ago and now we’re hearing about Eric Berry’s name coming up in trade rumors yet again.
But like the Jackson trade rumors, the Eric Berry rumors are being cautiously shot down by those who cover the team, as Adam Teicher from ESPN reports that Kansas City is unlikely to move Berry for cap relief or a higher draft pick this May.
"I don’t know how the Chiefs get better by trading strong safety Eric Berry. Sure, he’s expensive. But good players usually are. Trading him now significantly weakens their defense. The Chiefs wouldn’t be able to find a player making much less money who could do the things Berry can. Another thing: The Chiefs are comfortable right now with their cap room. They don’t have to dump salary in order to make things work."
The major issue with Berry is his cap number, but really Chiefs fans have no reason to be upset with Berry. It seems that the trade rumors are just exploratory ones by fans, but we saw how quickly that turned into the real deal with the Philadelphia Eagles and DeSean Jackson.
Berry isn’t as sensitive as Jackson is though and the Chiefs aren’t as high on trading him as the Eagles are with Jackson.
