Clemson Tigers offensive lineman Brandon Thomas, who many believed would have an outside chance of being selected in the first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft, suffered a torn ACL during his pre-draft preparation, and now there are details as to how the injury occurred.

According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post and Baltimore Sun, Thomas’ torn anterior cruciate ligament occurred during a private workout with the New Orleans Saints.

Thomas is expected to undergo surgery to repair his knee soon.

The Clemson standout is a well-rounded draft prospect that could instantly improve any unit that added him to the roster, but now he will be entering the NFL for his rookie year fresh off of surgery for a serious knee injury.

2014 should serve as a “redshirt” year for Thomas in the pros, and he will hope to be at 100 percent in time for his sophomore campaign where he will have the ability to get in a full training camp.
