Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin is considered one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft, and with good reason. At 6’5″ and over 240-pounds, Benjamin is a huge target for quarterbacks to get the ball to.

However, NFL.com analyst Charles Davis is under the impression that Benjamin’s weight is actually a concern for some scouts, rather than a favorable attribute.

"“Mike Evans and Kelvin Benjamin are, in a lot of ways, the same guy,” Davis told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh on Tuesday. “But, I do know that a number of scouts and personnel people like Evans a lot better really for this reason — he doesn’t weigh over 240 pounds. 240-pound receivers scare the heck out of NFL personnel people because when you do your studies, and you go back and look, name the 240-pound receiver that was — forget All-Pro — that was productive over a period of time. They just really haven’t. He’s not out there.”"

This does carry some weight, no pun intended. While Benjamin is young right now, there’s no telling what can happen over the next few years as he gets older. Right now, he’s a healthy 240-pounds, but about five years from now, there’s a chance that he might be a not-so-healthy 240; or even worse, he could weigh more.
