On Wednesday afternoon, news surfaced that free agent tight end Ed Dickson would be traveling to Charlotte for a meeting with the Carolina Panthers. The news comes from none other than, well, Ed Dickson.

The Panthers are very short on receiving options for the upcoming season after parting ways with veteran wide receiver Steve Smith earlier in the offseason, so Dickson would give them a reliable pass catching target underneath and provide Cam Newton with a safety net if the team’s receivers are unable to get open.
While Dickson is on his way to visit with the Panthers, a report from Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun stated that Dickson is expected to sign with the team during his visit.
