Daily Fantasy Baseball: Padres’ Andrew Cashner is Wednesday’s top play

Raise your hand if Stephen Strasburg made your hair go grey last night. It’s okay. Even though Strasburg was the right decision, it blew up in my face.

Today might be the least sexy list of hitters list that I’ve ever put out.  Premium pitching is pricy today, so I tried to do the best I could with our $50,000 budget.  I am strictly focusing on the late games.  Here are my daily fantasy baseball picks for April 16th:

All prices are based on DraftKings player pricing.

SP 1 – Andrew Cashner, San Diego Padres, $10,000 – My dark horse NL Cy Young winner really came to life last week.  Cashner pitched a complete game one hit shut out against the Tigers.  I expect more of the same tonight against the Rockies.

SP 2 – Michael Pineda, New York Yankees, $9,200 – Pineda will face the Chicago Cubs tonight.  He probably won’t need the pine tar, and should put out a quality start against the guys from the North side.

C – David Ross, Boston Red Sox, $2,100 – Punt play of the day.  Pitching ate up almost 40 percent of our budget tonight.  Ross should do well against John Danks of the Chicago White Sox though.

1B – Billy Butler, Kansas City Royals, $3,700 – Who doesn’t love a big country breakfast?  Butler is itching to hit a bomb.  Luckily for Butler he is playing the Houston Astros tonight, Dallas Keuchel is on the mound, and he should benefit from the right handed batter/left handed pitcher matchup.

2B- Howie Kendrick, Los Angeles Angels, $4,100 – Is it Howie or Howard?  Who cares?  He is hitting .450 against Tommy Milone, with two homeruns, and seven RBIs.

3B – Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants, $4,600 – This might be the first time Panda has been on one of my rosters.  Why does he deserve to be on here?  A .375 average with two dingers, and 5 RBIs against Paul Maholm, that’s why.

SS – Jonathan Villar, Houston Astros, $3,400 – A semi punt play.  Last time I used Villar as a punt play it paid off, and he hit a homerun.  His nemesis tonight is Jeremy Guthrie, a pitcher on the Royals who is prone to get lit up.

OF 1 – Justin Upton, Atlanta Braves, $5,800 – Finally a sexy name on my roster.  The reigning NL Player Of The Week will look to continue mashing the ball.  The only problem is he is facing Cliff Lee tonight.  Not to worry, he has enjoyed success against the lefty in his career.

OF 2 – Hunter Pence, San Francisco Giants, $4,400 – Another Giants’ player on my team?  Yes I have little faith in Paul Maholm, but a .308 average, with two bombs, and nine RBIs is not too shabby.

OF 3 – Jonny Gomes, Boston Red Sox, $3,700 – The left hand specialist Gomes, will be facing John Danks of the Chicago White Sox tonight.  Given how much we spent on pitching this isn’t a bad play.  Pray for the best with Johnny.
