NFL Draft Rumors: ‘Legitimate interest’ between St. Louis Rams & Johnny Manziel
Although no one is certain about what the Houston Texans will do with the #1 overall pick, what the St. Louis Rams plan on doing with the second overall pick may be an even bigger question.
They could jump on South Carolina Gamecocks’ defensive end Jadeveon Clowney if the Texans pass on him or could take a different defensive monster in Buffalo Bulls’ linebacker Khalil Mack. They could opt to add an offensive lineman (Greg Robinson of the Auburn Tigers is a popular pick here) or add a play-making wide receiver in Sammy Watkins of the Clemson Tigers.
Not many expect the Rams to add a quarterback, but according to Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network, there is “legitimate interest” between the Rams and Texas A&M Aggies’ quarterback Johnny Manziel.
“Take what you will with this, but this is out there,” Jeremiah said via Bryan Fischer of NFL.com. “(NFL personnel) are saying there’s legitmate interest between the Rams and Johnny Manziel. There’s at least buzz in personnel circles saying do not rule out Johnny Manziel to St. Louis.”
The Rams hold both the second and 13th overall picks.
“I don’t know if that’s a scenario where he drops all the way to 13 or if they will have the guts to take him with the second overall pick,” Jeremiah said. “I’m just telling you that’s out there, and some people believe it’s a real possibility.”
Manziel completed 300 of 429 passes for 4,114 yards with 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions last season.
