The Denver Broncos are not one of the teams you’ll hear in the next week being discussed with names like Jadeveon Clowney, Johnny Manziel or Sammy Watkins but that doesn’t mean their first round pick is just a wash. They may be picking at the back of the draft but the Broncos are very much alive for a top prospect.
According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, Denver may look to take a cornerback in the first round which means someone like Jason Verrett is a real option for them at No. 31 overall.
Renck states that the Broncos would prefer Oklahoma St. cornerback Justin Gilbert but they may also want someone like Clowney but won’t get him either. Gilbert is a top prospect that CBSSports’ Pat Kirwan thinks someone will have to trade into the top 10 to get, so having him fall to No. 31 wold require a lot.
Still, Verrett isn’t the worse option out there as he already has eyes set on Defensive Rookie of the Year and if there’s one position the Broncos need young, motivated players it’s in their secondary.
