The fourth place San Diego Padres (12-14) are getting ready to close out their 10 game road trip with a three game series against the San Francisco Giants.

San Diego will be looking to put together a two game winning streak after defeating the Washington Nationals yesterday by the score of 4-2. But before they take the field tonight against the Giants, the Padres made a couple roster moves. It’s nothing bad, in fact it’s the complete opposite.

This is the only time professional athletes want to be placed on any sort of list, ever. The Padres have placed infielder Jedd Gyorko on the paternity leave list as his wife is getting ready to deliver their twin boys. It’s likely he’ll miss the entire three game series against the Giants.

He’s currently hitting .144/.218/.211 across the line with one home run, nine RBI’s three triples and a double through 90 at-bats.

With Gyorko possibly missing the next the three games, the Padres have called up 26 year old first baseman Tommy Medica. Medica will be entering his second stint with the big league club this season.

Before he was sent down to Triple-A El Paso, Medica had one home run, two RBI’s and 15 strikeouts while batting .143/.172/.286.
