Cabrera was diagnosed with a left shin bruise after being hit by a Danny Duffy pitch in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Royals.

He may be forced to sit a couple of games, but word out of Toronto is that the Blue Jays don’t expect him to be out very long.

X-rays were negative and he is listed as day to day.

Cabrera, who entered the game with 41 hits, the most in the Major Leagues, was replaced by Jonathan Diaz.

His .347 batting average at the start of the night ranked second in the American League behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez at .355.

In other injury news:

Matt Garza, Milwaukee Brewers

Garza struggled through three innings on Wednesday, allowing five earned runs on five hits and four walks before exiting the game with a bruised right thumb.

The Brewers have indicated that Garza is day-to-day, and all signs point to him making his next start.

Garza is now 1-3 on the season and has posted a 30:12 K: BB ratio in 36 innings, but has a 5.00 ERA/3.92 xFIP, as his strand rate sits at 61%.

Matt Cain, San Francisco Giants

Cain, who was scratched from Tuesday night’s start, was seen playing catch on Wednesday.

Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said the plan is to have Cain make his next start, Monday in Pittsburgh. If his finger remains an issue, Yusmeiro Petit, who filled in on Tuesday, can make another spot start instead.

Wilin Rosario, Colorado Rockies

Rosario (contusion on left hand) took batting practice Wednesday afternoon and continues to make improvement.

He’s been out of the lineup since Saturday and is hitting .244 with three home runs and 13 RBIs in 22 games this season.

A return to the lineup looks to be on the horizon.

Francisco Liriano, Pittsburgh Pirates

Liriano is on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays after leaving his start Saturday in St. Louis with dizziness, flu-like symptoms and a bloody nose.

Jhoulys Chacin, Colorado Rockies

The Rockies placed Tyler Chatwood on the 15-day DL and Chacin appears to be the top option to replace him in the rotation.

Chacin, who has recovered from a strained right shoulder, completed his rehab assignment and appears on track to return to the big leagues Sunday against the Mets.

He allowed one run on four hits in six innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday against Memphis.
