NFL Draft rumors: Houston Texans know who they want with No. 1 pick
By Josh Sanchez
The Houston Texans are just one week away from handing their draft card in to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as we learn which lucky player will be named the No. 1 overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
While the Texans No. 1 pick will be a surprise to the rest of the world when it is made by Goodell, Texans general manager Rick Smith already knows who he wants the pick to be.
“I absolutely know who I want,” Smith told Fox Sports Southwest, via the team’s official website.
“Now where the game is played is if there’s an opportunity to move and, in this case, obviously to move back if somebody else wants to come up to that first pick. Then you weigh what the opportunities are versus who the individual is that you want to take and what that value is relative to the value that somebody might be offering you.”
The belief is that the Texans decision will come down to Jadeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel.
Clowney is likely the favorite with multiple reports that the Texans will be willing to wait until the middle rounds to select a quarterback.
The speculation will continue to swirl, but now that the Texans mind appears to be made up we will just have to sit back and wait until the pick is officially announced.
