The NFL Draft is a day away and teams are starting to hammer out their final strategies they’re taking into the event. One way to make sure you get the guy you want is to trade around but that doesn’t always mean trading up, as teams trade down ll the time to get the guy they want, plus some more picks.

It appears that the Minnesota Vikings are in that situation at No. 8 overall as general manager Rick Spielman told NFL Network’s Albert Breer that he has had trade down discussions with as many as five teams interested in moving up.

“GM Rick Spielman told me Vikings have had trade-down talks with 5 clubs,” according to Breer. “Said trade up is unlikely, something unexpected wld have to happen.”

This seems to mesh with what we’ve been hearing out of Spielman from the start, as he’s said he wants as many as ten draft picks to play around with and trading the No. 8 pick to someone who wants a cornerback, a receiver or a tackle still on the board makes sense.

Minnesota has a lot of needs and what that means is they can’t hit a home run with one pick. They had three first rounders in 2013 and still ended up with a top 10 pick this year, so continuing to mine talents throughout the draft seems like a strategy we’ll see the Vikings pursue again.
