The San Francisco were a mystery when it came to what they’d end up doing in the draft but the time has come for the final decision to come down. They were rumored to be trading up into the teens but they never did and stayed put at No. 30 overall. There were opportunities for the San Francisco 49ers to trade up and even trade down but there were a lot of chips that fell to the Niners and they stayed put.

Ultimately, the 49ers ended up drafting Jimmie Ward from Northern Illinois with the No. 30 overall pick.

The pick makes a lot of sense for the 49ers as it gives them someone who can fill a big hole on the roster that they needed shored up in the long haul. Not only does he fit with the Niners, but he is the fourth safety to be taken in the draft and the second to head to the NFC West.
