NFL Draft Rumors: Rams trade value in No. 2 pick will drop if Jadeveon Clowney is not available
By Josh Hill
With the NFL Draft just hours away, we are seeing teams start to scramble in order to ensure they get the player they want. What this means is a team may have to trade up but for some it means trading down, something the St. Louis Rams are trying to do with the second pick in the draft.
According to Rams beat writer Jim Thomas, if Jadeveon Clowney is off the board at No. 2 overall, then the pick will lose a lot of it’s value to most teams. This seems a bit odd, as there would still be Sammy Watkins and Khalil Mack to trade up for but teams may not want to move all the way up to No. 2 to get them.
Instead, Thomas says that a scenario in which Clowney goes No. 1 overall means the Rams pick at No. 13 will be much more valuable.
It’s unclear what the Rams will do, but it’s hard to see the No. 2 pick losing so much value with Clowney off the board that the No. 13 pick is more valuable. Still, we have no idea what teams really want but it’s safe to say someone will be crazy enough to move up if they feel it’s what they have to do.
