The Houston Texans were rumored to be taking a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick but went with Jadeveon Clowney instead. They also didn’t trade back into the first round to take a quarterback which sort of narrows down their options for the No. 33 pick on Friday night.

Not that it’s particularly surprising news, but the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Texans are expected to take Derek Carr with the No. 33 overall pick on Friday night.

Thanks to Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater all being off the board, the Texans will almost certainly be taking the younger brother of draft bust David Carr, but there is hope that  anew regime in Houston won’t corrupt the latest Carr to come through their system.

Carr was once viewed as a top 10 pick but after further evaluation his stock dropped and he has now fallen out of the first round. He won’t last much longer though, as not only is he a solid prospect to develop, but he fills a need the Texans have to address at No. 33 overall.
