It’s the Miami Marlins, so odd news isn’t so odd, but this one has even the jaded fans in Miami shaking their heads.
Two of the Marlins’ minor league players — relief pitchers Chris Hatcher and Sam Dyson — got into a bar fight…
With each other.
That’s right, the two teammates were duking it out according to the Miami Herald.
The worst part? Hatcher landed a solid blow to the face of Dyson, breaking his jaw and putting him out of action for at least six weeks.
The two play for the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate, the New Orleans Zephyrs, and were in a Nashville bar on April 29th during the team’s just-completed eight-game road trip when the fight reportedly occurred.
Hatcher has been suspended, but wouldn’t give much in the way of comment to the New Orleans Advocate
"“I’m not getting into that; can’t do it. I’m suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. Unfortunately [the incident] happened, and I’m going to leave it at that.”"
It’s not like it’s the first time around the rodeo for either of these guys, both having played in the major for at least short stints. Hatcher, who is 29, has a 7.22 ERA in 33 2/3 career major league innings, while the 26-year-old Dyson has a 10.80 career ERA in 11 2/3 career innings in the majors.
Get it under control, guys, your big club is actually playing well for a change. Or at least punch the guys in the other uniform.
