History was made today when the St. Louis Rams drafted Michael Sam, making him the first openly gay football player in the history of the sport. The reception for Sam has been very warm as it seems this was the perfect time for this sort of barrier to be broken and this trail to be blazed. From the touching video of Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on ESPN to the outpouring of love and support for him, never before has the seventh round of the NFL Draft been this awesome to watch. Sam was quick to send his own thanks out, to the St. Louis Rams, for drafting him and making his dream come true.

It was truly a seminal moment in NFL history — and really in American history — as Michael Sam has now blazed a trail that will be walked again and again throughout the rest of human history.
