Perhaps the most interesting story that we were all following throughout the NFL Draft was who would draft Michael Sam this year? Not only was Sam the SEC Co-Player of the Year but he was the first openly gay player to enter the NFL and he has now found a home.

In the seventh round, with the 249th pick in the NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams drafted Michael Sam to make him first openly gay player in the NFL.

Aside from the social impact of the drafting of Michael Sam, there are questions about his ability to transition to the NFL, but that’s all being buried in the awesome fact that the NFL has welcomed it’s first openly gay player to it’s ranks. The trail has been blazed by Michael Sam and while he may not become a star at the next level, he’s no doubt forever a part of the NFL and it’s legacy.
