NBA Rumors: Could New York Knicks pursue Jose Calderon in Tyson Chandler trade?
If the New York Knicks re-sign Carmelo Anthony in the offseason, they will be over the salary cap and could look to trade players like Tyson Chandler to acquire other assets.
If the Knicks decide to trade Chandler to the Dallas Mavericks, who are reportedly interested in re-acquiring the big man, they could get try to get Jose Calderon in return.
"Well, I assume you’re talking about guys they could get in free agency or trades, since they don’t have any draft picks. Their best bets for landing a marquee player of any kind involve a Carmelo sign-and-trade, and that would probably be a net loss for the team. If they trade Tyson Chandler they could land someone of value, and with Dallas interested in Chandler maybe Phil Jackson can convince the Mavs to give them Jose Calderon and a future first-rounder, although that’s total speculation on my part. As for free agents, the Knicks will be capped out, and a new deal for Carmelo Anthony would surely push them into the tax. Unless they can find an Andrei Kirilenko type willing to take a steep discount to play for the mini mid-level, there aren’t many intriguing free agent options out there for the team."
Chandler averaged 8.7 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while Calderon put up 11.4 points, 4.7 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game last season.
