It looks like the Detroit Pistons are close to hiring former Miami Heat and Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy to be their next head coach. Van Gundy will also have control over personnel. Without any control in Orlando, the Dwight Howard situation spiraled out of control and the end of Van Gundy’s tenure with the Magic was a disaster (but he still may reportedly bring former Magic general manager Otis Smith with him to Detroit should he wind up taking the job).

At least one Pistons’ player, point guard Brandon Jennings, is excited about the prospect of Van Gundy taking over in Detroit.

Jennings spent the first four years of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, who drafted him with the 10th-overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft. A little less than year ago, he became a restricted free agents and the Pistons acquired him in a sign-and-trade. He averaged 15.5 points, 7.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game last season.
