Earlier in the day there were rumblings that former Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy was going to be interviewing for the Golden State Warriors job in the near future. Less than a few hours later, all of a sudden he’s working on a five year, $35 million deal to get hired by the Detroit Pistons.

To be fair, there was a report on Tuesday that indicated Van Gundy was circling a powerful job with the Pistons and that has turned out to be true.

In Detroit, the thinking is that Van Gundy would assume not only the head coaching duties but the president of basketball operations position as well, effectively becoming what Bill Belichick is to the Patriots for the Detroit Pistons.

There’s a chance that the Warriors can still hire Van Gundy, but they appear to have dropped him for a full-on pursuit of Steve Kerr as the coaching dominos have very clearly begun to fall.
