Dante Exum met with Sixers/Pistons/Suns at NBA Draft combine
While the NBA Playoffs is getting the bulk of the headlines, the Draft Combine is underway in Chicago. Teams are checking out some of the players they’ll likely invest their futures in, seeing what they can do on the floor and how composed they are off it.
An interesting note from Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders is Dante Exum meeting with a few teams at the combine.
While Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid, and Julius Randle are the big-name prospects that we had a chance to see, breakdown, and heavily criticize over the previous collegiate season, Dante Exum had a chance to avoid such hasty viewings as he’s an overseas prospect. Expected to be a combo guard, some expect Exum to be a definite lottery pick, ranging from the third to six-ish pick depending on where the lottery balls fall.
And each of the three teams that spoke with Exum could definitely use his talents. An interesting fit would be the Phoenix Suns as they deployed the two point guard lineups throughout the season with Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe. Would drafting Exum meaning Bledsoe is traded in the offseason as he enters restricted free agency? The odds of that happening are high, but it’d give the Suns flexibility in the future to improve an up-and-coming team. As far as Detroit and Philadelphia, the gaping hole at the two guard position says everything you need to know about their interest in Exum.
If he’s truly a top-5 talent, Exum will be a fun player. But there are a lot of questions surrounding this Australian prospect. All eyes will be on him to see if he can live up to the expectations building around him.
