The St. Louis Rams have waived running back Daryl Richardson, a seventh round pick in the 2012 draft.

This move was both surprising and not surprising. After the Rams drafted Tre Mason in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft, someone in that backfield was going to be cut. The logical choice seamed to be Isaiah Pead, a second round pick from that same 2012 draft Richardson was in.

In 2012 Richardson was the third highest rusher on the team carrying the ball 69 times (second highest on the team) for 215 yards. That averaged out to a pedestrian 3.1 yards per carry though.

Pead on the other hand carried the ball only seven times for 21 yards and was viewed mainly as a special teams player. There were even reports that the Rams tried to trade Pead during Saturday, the final day of the draft. At some point it looks like they decided to keep Pead and release Richardson, an interesting turn of events.
