The San Diego Padres have traded OF/1B Kyle Blanks to the Oakland Athletics for OF Jake Goebbert and a player to be named later. The A’s designated Daric Barton for assignment to make room for Blanks on their roster. Barton was 2-10 with an RBI for the Oakland this year.
Blanks was 2-10 with both hits being singles for San Diego this year. Blanks will enter into a platoon with Brandon Moss at first for the A’s, seeing the short end of the playing time. Still, for those of you desperate for power in AL-only leagues, he is worth picking up. Those of you in deep mixed leagues may want to take a shot that some of his power potential comes around as well.
The Tampa Bay Rays have placed Ben Zobrist on the disabled list with a dislocated thumb that he suffered while sliding into second base on Wednesday. Cole Figueroa was called up from AAA Durham. Sean Rodriguez and Logan Forsythe will likely seen an uptick in playing time with Zobrist out.
Zobrist was hitting .260 with three homers, nine RBI, and three steals. Rodriguez is just beginning to heat up, hitting .360 over the last couple of weeks. He has four homers on the year, so as long as he is in the lineup, he can help in most league. I would pick up Rodriguez in any moderate or deep league.

The New York Yankees have placed OF Carlos Beltran on the DL with bone spurs in his elbow. Newly recalled Zoilo Almonte will see increased playing time with Beltran out and Ichiro Suzuki dealing with nagging injuries. He might be worth a look for those of you in deep leagues.
The Cleveland Indians have placed Nyjer Morgan on the DL with a sprained knee. Morgan injured the knee in the first inning of Wednesday’s game. Jesus Aguilar was recalled from AAA in the corresponding roster move.
Aguilar was hitting .298 with 7 homers at AAA prior to his call up, and I have to think that the Indians would not have called him up if they didn’t plan on playing him. I would add Aguilar in deep leagues.
The Toronto Blue Jays have placed OF Colby Rasmus on the DL with a sore hamstring. Rasmus has not played since Monday. OF Anthony Gose has been called up in the corresponding move.
Rasmus was hitting .222 with nine home runs and 19 RBI on the season. That kind of power will be hard to replace.
Rookie Kevin Pillar will continue to play in the absence of Rasmus, although Gose could see some time in the outfield as well. Gose is better known for his speed, but I doubt he gets enough playing time over the next two weeks to really help your team. Both of these guys are probably better left on the waiver wire.
