NBA Draft Rumors: Brooklyn Nets looking to acquire draft pick in trade

The Brooklyn Nets are like their New York City brethren and can’t seem to hold onto first-round draft picks. After their abysmal season, the New York Knicks won’t have the luxury of picking in the draft lottery as they are still paying off debts to the Denver Nuggets in the Carmelo Anthony trade. Brooklyn similarly traded away first-round draft picks in order to acquire Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason terry from the Boston Celtics and as a result will be without a first-rounder this summer.
Not having a draft pick in the first round is something that Nets general manager Billy King will want to change though as according to Mike Mazzeo from ESPN, the team will be looking to acquire a draft pick before June.
Unlike a few years ago when the Nets lost out on a mid-lottery pick thanks to the Gerald Wallace trade with the Blazers — a pick that turned into Damian Lillard — the Nets first-rounder they sent to Boston is sitting at No. 17 overall. Still, Brooklyn showed wear and tear pretty horrifically in the postseason and they need young talent to establish longevity.
It’s unclear if the Nets will be able to find the trade they’re looking for, but trading into the back end of the first-round may not be out of the question and Brooklyn needs all the young help they can find, no mater where they gets it.
